Our Emergency Trauma Response training course is intended to provide individuals who have little to no medical background with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond appropriately to trauma medical emergencies in the pre-hospital setting. This training course combines basic life support methods and techniques from military, EMS, and first aid standards to better inform how and when to respond and treat as a first responder in the real world.

This course breaks down pre-hospital treatment by using the M.A.R.C.H.E assessment algorithm (explained below) and prioritizes both physiological and treatment focus in those key areas. These key areas of focus are then reinforced with highly realistic hands-on training as well as highly realistic and interactive scenario training that immerses the student creating a far more retainable learning environment. This course is taught by instructors with real world knowledge and experience who are passionate about teaching to a high standard making emergency medical response as simple as possible for anyone from any background.

This course is structured around one of the most well-known and effective patient assessment algorithms used in modern pre-hospital treatment, M.A.R.C.H.E.

M = Massive Hemorrhage

A = Airway

R = Respirations

C = Circulation

H = Head / Hypothermia

E = Everything Else / Evacuation

By structuring our course around this assessment, students are able to focus their learning on important need-to-know fundamental basics that will save lives.

M = MASSIVE  HEMORRHAGE

The first area of focus is the circulatory system and how to best control bleeding

Learning Objectives:

- Basic human anatomy and the circulatory system

- How to identify life-threatening bleeds

- Proper use of direct pressure

- Proper use and application of a tourniquet

- Wound packing techniques

- How to properly dress and bandage

- Reassessment

A = AIRWAY

The second area of focus is the respiratory system and how to secure and maintain the airway

Learning Objectives:

- Basic human anatomy and the respiratory system

- How to properly check and assess the airway

- Proper use of positioning

- How to safely clear airway obstructions

- Airway tools and other management methods

R = RESPIRATIONS

The third area of focus is the respiratory system and how to assess and monitor breathing

Learning Objectives:

- How to identify the need for CPR and the steps involved

- How to perform proper CPR and use an AED

- How to check for proper breathing and identify issues

- Understanding different breathing qualities and monitoring breath rate

- Proper use of occlusive dressings and how to seal the thoracic cavity

C = CIRCULATION

The fourth area of focus is the circulatory and respiratory systems and how to assess and monitor vital signs and identify signs of shock

Learning Objectives:

- How to properly check pulse in different areas and understanding heart rate

- Understanding capillary refill and skin tone / quality

- How to identity symptomatic breathing

- How to prevent / treat shock

H = HEAD / HYPOTHERMIA

The fifth area of focus is the nervous system and how to assess for head injuries and prevent hypothermia

Learning Objectives:

- Basic human anatomy and the nervous system

- How to identify potential head injuries

- What is symptomatic behavior and why it matters

- How to identity signs of hypothermia

- How to prevent / treat hypothermia

E = EVERTHING ELSE / EVACUATION
The sixth area of focus is reassessment and evacuation as well as how to efficiently manage minor injuries

Learning Objectives:
- How and when to address minor injuries
- How to monitor vital signs and how to use vitals data
- Proper splinting and other specific injury dressing

All learning objectives are reinforced with highly realistic hands-on training as well as highly realistic and interactive scenario training that is challenging, engaging, and immersive promoting a high standard of learning

Scenario Training Objectives:
- Create realistic emergency situations and environments to test and challenge course participants
- Demonstrate the value of proper treatment response and how it applies to realistic situations
- Build student confidence and tangible experience

The Dynamic Defense Academy ETR course is designed to give the everyday person the knowledge and confidence necessary to deal with trauma related injuries and first aid. This course does not require any prerequisites and is designed for people from all backgrounds. The Emergency Trauma Response training is a 2-day course that breaks down trauma injuries from a first responder perspective and provides critical education and information related to trauma and medical emergencies.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS & INFORMATION
All Training materials and tools will be provided as well as notebooks and writing utensils, however if you'd like to bring your own note taking materials please do. We highly recommend note taking as there is a lot of information we will be presenting. Please attend on time, with a good attitude, ready to learn and participate. There is a lot of hands-on training in this course and you will get out of it what you put into it. This class involves the use of simulated blood and injuries so we ask that you wear clothing that can get roughed up or stained. The simulated blood we use washes out of most materials but we cannot guarantee that it will wash out of everything so please dress accordingly. We do not require the use of masks but if you'd like to wear one please feel free to do so. We will be using latex medical gloves for much of the hands-on training. If you have any allergies or health conditions you feel may affect your training or feel we need to know about please let us know. If there are any questions or concerns about the student expectations please let us know and I'd be happy to help.
